If the subject is incorrectly identified, the idea is that we rename the file instead of deleting it. The photo itself was not taken in DR Congo. It was taken at a public art exhibition in Germany, at Documenta 12. Further, it is not a faithful reproduction of a single work. It is an installation view, meaning the photographer had to choose how to frame the composition as an independent work. These are unlikely to be the uploader's own works. PNG quality suggests these are mere screencaptures. Also, the user account name is identical to that of the noted Filipino actor/entertainment reporter/talent manager, but I doubt Diaz himself would had created an account only to upload possibly-copyvio files.

Benin does not permit Freedom of Panorama for commercial uses of images of copyrighted memorials and monuments of the country, including this. This sculptural monument was inaugurated in 1995, and was a joint authorship of: architect Yves Ahouen-Gnimon and the following sculptors: w:fr:Fortuné Bandeira (for the columns and bas-reliefs), Yves Kpede (for the Egungun), and Dominque Kouas Gnonnou (for the bronzes).

  • I'm glad I saw this long deletion request and was able to upload the file we've had on voy:Benin locally. It's once again a problem that the bot that's supposed to warn us about nominations for deletion of files COM:INUSE on our sister site is not working. Commercial FOP is not a requirement on various Wikimedia sites including en.voy, but if we're not warned about deletions, files get removed from our site for no good reason, just because we're depending on Commons for hosting and blithely going about our business. And please don't give me an annoyed response that lack of commercial FOP isn't no good reason - I know it's de rigueur on Commons. You see that's not the point I'm making. User was uploading food images sourced to Instagram and YouTube, and when those files were flagged for lacking permission the user continued to upload images in a similar style as their "own work" instead. But File:Queso arish dominicano.jpg is very clearly a rotated crop of https://www.instagram.com/p/CctVCXkLQzG.

Main reason for deletion is the low quality and the generic nature of the images. Hundreds of thousands of random landscapes, views from roads, animals etc are on Commons, all much better quality and thus better to use. ~TheImaCow (talk) 19:58, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, thanks for your contribution. The book itself has no copyright neither the cover (no copyright mention). Indeed you can contact the publishing house throw this link and they will confirm my permission to take a photo of the cover throw their official Facebook page (messages). In the Arabic world Islamic book covers has no copyrights except for one publishing house wish is "دار الكتب العلمية". About the photo .. I own the book and I have a good Library that I can use for such useful and helpful photos. If it's deleted I'll have to upload it in the Arabic Wikipedia and the other wikis will not be able to have it in their articles. This was uploaded from Flickr, but it's not clear that the Flickr user had permission to use or license the photo as part of their compilation. See https://www.history.ucsb.edu/faculty/bware/ - the Flickr user may have simply copied the image from the person's academic profile page. There's no freedom of panorama for 3D works of art like sculptures, statues, etc. (even publicly displayed ones) installed after January 1, 1978, in the United States under its copyright laws as explained in COM:FOP US. So, while the uploader who took this photo can release their photo under a free license Commons accepts, the photo is a derivative work. This means the copyright status of the photographed work itself also needs to be considered, and Commons can't keep this file unless the photographed work itself is either within the public domain or this particular image of the work has been released by the works creator/copyright holder under an acceptable free license. -- Marchjuly (talk) 21:27, 17 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
