Australian Mural deletion requests

I dont really understand the legal side behind all the discussions around murals in Australia but I noticed one of my images has been deleted and another two nominated for deletion. I have no issue with this if that is what the law says but I'm curious about your approach. Aren't all images in Category:Murals in Australia and its subcategories up for deletion, shouldn't it be a bulk nomination rather than on case at a time? And shouldn't the category be deleted itself as everything in it is by default a copyright violations? I'm happy to nominate my uploads for speedy deletion if that simplifies the process, but not all are from me, of course. Calistemon (talk) 10:53, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

@Calistemon bulk deletions are typically discouraged, since the images may includemurals that are actually acceptable by age. There have been cases of applying w:en:WP:TRAINWRECK to several nomination cases here, like Commons:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Buildings in Bacolod City. Murals should be reviewed to determine if the muralists are dead for more than 70 years or not. If the artist of a mural died for more than 70 years, then the image/s may be acceptable, though possible complication with Uruguay Round Agreements Act of the U.S. (which restored U.S. copyright to all eligible foreign artworks) may arise, especially Wikimedia websites are hosted on U.S. servers and the United States does not grant Freedom of Panorama for copyrighted non-architectural works. Mass nominations are best made if the category is focused on a specific work (like, COM:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Tower of the Sun of Japan), not for general categories like Category:Statues in Minsk. However, overuse of a mass DR page can lead to a great quantity of nomination threads that may cause errors to administrators' tools (some admins claimed errors in admin tools when dealing with open requests at COM:Deletion requests/Files in Category:Burj Khalifa). Limiting uploads

Based on the discussion on the new File naming guideline I share my upload experience with you, that for me seemed to work pretty well. My learning curve came with warnings of a block for uploading copyrighted files such as here and here and I took them really seriously and believed if someone uploads repeatedly copyrighted files s/he would get blocked. After, I've learned the ropes and have hardly had issues anymore. Not with all DR notices a block warning is included. Maybe a block waring could be included in DR notices. @Paradise Chronicle might be OK, but it is best to gain wider consensus through COM:VPP. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 23:56, 8 April 2024 (UTC)
File:Protests against RH Bill at EDSA 20120804 (01) - Flickr.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Discussion on Pipe Organs in countries with No Fop for interior

I believe you started such a discussion once or at least commented on it. But I do not find it anymore, do you know where it is? I believe it's a discussion we should bring to an end Paradise Chronicle (talk) 06:23, 17 May 2024 (UTC)

@Paradise Chronicle it was likely automatically archived by bot since a week has passed without new comments. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 07:01, 17 May 2024 (UTC)
@Paradise Chronicle: the now-archived discussion is this. It's up to you if you want to reopen the discussion in a new thread. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 06:19, 25 May 2024 (UTC)

Mongolian FOP cases

Hi, Are there any remaining cases which should be undeleted? Best, Yann (talk) 10:59, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

@Yann I cannot see deleted files, and some file names or case descriptions are vague to me, so I cannot suggest more. My apology. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 11:01, 21 May 2024 (UTC)

Thanks

For the notice and page about freedom of panorama, an important topic. Hopefully the Foundation is working diligently in governmental and legal circles to fully obtain that freedom in the U.S. and elsewhere. Randy Kryn (talk) 23:49, 14 June 2024 (UTC)

Category:Deletion requests by specific subject/Buildings and monuments

Hi. Just curious why you created this page as a subpage of the category (and a subcategory) rather than just a subcategory like the others in Category:Deletion requests by specific subject. I'm guessing it was just a mistake, but figured I'd check first if you have an objection to just moving it. — Rhododendrites talk12:38, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

@Rhododendrites it is to classify those that are related to Freedom of Panorama-related deletions but are categorized per a specific landmark, not a country (like Category:Burj Khalifa-related deletion requests. It is a subcategory as it is in the namespace "Category", not a page. Although it may be OK to move it to Category:Architecture and public art-related deletion requests), it seems too general for me. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 14:06, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
What about "Freedom of panorama-related discussions"? — Rhododendrites talk14:16, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
@Rhododendrites one issue for that subcategory name. Other users may claim it can be redundant to Category:FOP-related deletion requests, others may even suggest moving all country-related categories (like "Philippine FOP cases") there. In my perspective, it's more organized to have separate subcategories for the specific landmarks and for the countries. Perhaps follow the system at Category:Derivative work-related deletion requests? There is a subcategory for countries (Category:Derivative work-related deletion requests by country). JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 14:24, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
Ah! Yes, redundant indeed. Ok, so returning to the original notion, what about just "Building and monument-related deletion requests"? (Just getting rid of the "Deletion requests by specific subject" part of the title, but still of course putting it in Category:Deletion requests by specific subject). — Rhododendrites talk18:10, 6 July 2024 (UTC)
For some added context, I was trying to go through some deletion sorting categories to find some precedents. I was surprised that many DRs don't seem to have these categories and many are out of date (i.e. not yet moved from /pending to /deleted or /kept even after years). Figuring it might be because it's a difficult system, I made this script: User:Rhododendrites/drsort.js. It's a work in progress, but I'm starting with subject-based categories and came across this one.
If you do a lot of DR sorting and want to try it out, you're welcome to (again it's a work in progress -- I've been testing it at Commons:Deletion requests/testsandbox). Basically it creates drop-down menus for subject, country, source (like Unsplash or 500px), and property (as in particular intellectual property brands). I'm manually adding the names of all the relevant cats to populate the drop-down, and still sorting them. Once you select one, set the status and then "apply". If you select a status without selecting any category, it'll change the status of all current categories to that status. — Rhododendrites talk18:17, 6 July 2024 (UTC)

UDR of UAE files

Hi, I undeleted the files. The DR is very long, and I don't have the time now to remove the DR notice on the files. Could you do that please? Thanks for your help, Yann (talk) 09:13, 16 July 2024 (UTC)

@Yann will do. Thanks for restoring. JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 09:14, 16 July 2024 (UTC)
@Yann: re: template (this), I think we do not need to create a template. I's rather prefer adding a brief description on the year of completion and a note regarding PD status, plus a link to the involved discussion. For example: at Category:Jumeirah Mosque. Preferably, the PD-status descriptions are to be made bilingual (one for English and the other in Arabic). JWilz12345 (Talk|Contrib's.) 13:07, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
