TUSC login (again)

Hi, I tried to sign up again on your advice, and I got the confirmation that I have TUSC account. However, when I try to login to use Cropbot, I get the error:

"A user with the name spacemanspiff already exist!

Please note that this tool use the same login like gWatch. If you have a account there, you can use the login datas from there for login. If you don't have a account there, notify User:Luxo on his talkpage."

Hallo Magnus Manske, gestatte mir eine Frage und Bitte zu Deinem überaus hilfreichem Programm "CatScan V2.0β", das ich täglich mehrfach mit Begeisterung zur Pflege meiner vielen Beobachtungsseiten benutzte.
Wäre es möglich, neben der Spalte "Letzte Änderung" eine weitere Spalte einzufügen, wer der letzte Bearbeiter des Bildes, des Artikels oder der Kategorie war? Das könnte beim Kontrollieren Zeit sparen, wenn man z.B. Bots oder Bearbeitungen von bestimmten Usern oder die (bei großer Anzahl) eigenen Bearbeitungen nicht zu checken brauchte. Grüße. My bot does a "smart" replace of Original uploader was ..., wherein if it determines that the original uploader is the author, then it changes it to {{User at project}}; if it determines the uploader is not the author (e.g., {{PD-old}}), it removes it altogether, and if it is unsure, it leaves it to {{Original uploader}}. Flickr2Commons: Blacklisted User

When I tried to transfer [1] to File:Peri Gilpin.jpg with Flickr2Commons, the Bot did that, but wrote "Blacklisted user" in the description instead of the real information. I gather the FlickR user has been identified as non-reliable and that uploads aren't allowed (hence I deleted it immediately), but shouldn't the bot stop the upload process altogether in these cases? CommonsHelper und {{Rename media}}

Der CommonsHelper scheint die Vorlage {{Rename media}} beim transfer von enwiki mitzukopieren, siehe hier. Diese Vorlage funktioniert hier auf Commons, ist aber bei den kopierten Dateien nicht mehr notwendig (im verlinkten Fall ein ShadowsCommons-Problem, dass durch den Transfer gelöst wurde), sondern verursacht nur unnötige Arbeit. Sorry to tell it to you, but your multiple loading of pictures into Commons' category 'Saint-Barnabé' was an enormous mistake. This category was created for pictures of a so-called canadian village, and the 23 pix you put in it are related to a subway station in Marseille, France. TUSC over JSON?

Hallo Magnus, wäre es möglich neben der GUI auch eine JSON(or XML)-API for TUSC zu haben (mit CORS & accept POST only). Dann wäre nämlich die Accounterstellung ein Kinderspiel und beispielsweise könnte ein Script, das auf Commons gehostet/ausgeführt wird, den Account erstellen (den Edit durchführen, die Frage nach dem Projekt erübrigt sich dann und nach dem Passwort fragen und das ganze zurückposten) und z.B. den Cropbot-Link gleich beim Nutzer installieren. Saint-Barnabé (again)

So, if I understand, you are not responsible of the use or misuse of your bot, who signs anyway its works with your name; and do not answer when some people asks you a question, except (as it seems) through an external system needing an experience that most people have not (if so, why do you write 'Please use my talk page for comments'?).

Well, the bug was there, nobody did it, and it could have lasted indefinitely... So I did the job, more than one hour to transfer (without a bot) these 23 files in a new category, specially created and correctly linked (the 3 links from these pictures were all unappropriate). My lasted time was greater than the one saved by the unknown user of your bot. If ever you could know who did that (in your name!), would you please tell him to stop his work.

It looks like that the file uploads you are referring to (File:Marseille - Métro - Saint-Barnabé *) were issued by Magnus (at least the bot cites him in the upload summary (see revision table: Transferred from Flickr by User:Magnus Manske)). Hi. I recently used my own bot to mass-transfer free images from Flickr to Commons. These are auto-categorised by another tool called flinfo (not written or maintained by me). That process is not perfect, but the alternatives are not transfering the images, or not categorizing them at all. (Manual categories are not an option considering the number of files). Sorry: I found more than 100 other pictures wrongly categorized in Category:RTM (and not correctly dispatched in subcategories of Métro Marseille). I did what I could, but that is too much for me. I am not volunteer for correcting so many mistakes in one time, with no tool. WHO did act the categorizing tool ? Couldn't HE do the job ? Good news : somebody (?) removed the link to Category:RTM from all the pictures "Métro Marseille"; somebody (the same?) renamed Category:RTM, transfered in the new one pictures that needed to be there, and removed the former category. The recategorization of the pix into subcategories of Category:Métro Marseille remains to do, but the most important is done. For this place, it seems it is no longer involved. Uploading duplicate files

Hi Magnus,

Just curious, I've noticed you uploaded several photos from Dominic Sherony's Flickr photostream that I've already done, the latest one today being File:Green Kingfisher (Chloroceryle americana) (4412446444).jpg. Just curious, but aren't you getting the warnings for duplicate files from Mediawiki? Even if you don't, I would you think you would notice by looking at the image description page. Anyway, it seems like you're creating a lot of extra work for people to tag the duplicates and delete them, when it's probably better for the newer upload to be deleted because the old file may be in use. Indeed. SHA1 calculation is not a mystery any more (you can do this while downloading the file in little chunks so the bot has a balanced processor/bandwidth usage) and API SHA1 lookup does not take longer than 5 seconds. -- Rillke^(q?) 13:29, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Hi Magnus, sorry about this. But loading the same file twice causes a bit of extra work, especially if the second file needs to be recategorised. Ideally it would be nice if your bot only uploaded the same flickr photo once, but if that isn't possiblle would it be possible to put it in the same categories as the duplicate? Flickr2Commons

Hi. I have been using your tool extensively for the last weeks, so I wanted to report you something as I did in the past. Well, here they are.

• It really likes Chrome. Other browsers (FF, IE) will crash if one is dealing with huge photostreams (thousand of items).
• Clicking on single pics does not work, takes to an "undefined" address (at least most of the times).
• The tool is currently missing some interesting features which come with the Upload Wizard or Commonist instead. It does not allow title replacing with a new filename and progressive numeration, nor overwriting existing descriptions; most annoyingly, it does not give the option to "remember" the destination category when you enter a new Flickr account or set.
• It does not allow quick retrying failed uploads (which is a real pain in the ass in case of huge streams).
• It does not link to http://idgettr.com/, which is the safest way to make it work - it rarely accepts accounts'titles, while it always accepts the ID.
• The links to Meta pages do not work.

Hi Magnus, when uploading images like File:Bufflehead (Bucephala albeola) in flight (4411667845).jpg, please use specific categories like Category:Bucephala albeola, not highly generalised ones like Category:Ducks. Problems with File Upload Bot (Magnus Manske)

Hi Magnus, in the last days I've trying to massively upload images from flickr, by using this new tool. However, none of the times I've used it it's been possible to upload the whole selection. It's usually not more than half the images the ones that are correctly uploaded, while the remaining are not (usually because of an internal error). It's really annoying and it makes me waste a lot of time. Is that behaviour usual? I've done the uploads under the same TUSC name (ecemaml). Do you need further data to trace what's going on? Hi, from the discussion at Commons:Administrators'_noticeboard#Suggestions arises the issue of adding some brief (1 sentence plus a link, maybe) guidance to the Flickr2Commons tools (both versions). Hi Rd232, TUSC should not allow actions by a user blocked on the wiki in question; a separate blocking mechanism seems superfluous. Eine Bitte, würdest Du Schloss Johannisburg und Schönbusch, vor allem die Bilder aus dem Innern (Räume, Gemälde etc) von Luha auch noch herüberziehen, meine Versuche sind kläglich gescheitert. Lutz Hartmann macht sehr schöne Bilder, weigert sich aber sie in Wikimedia einzustellen. Unschön finde ich allerdings, dass man jetzt seine Originalbilder in Wikipedia als Duplex bezeichnet und sie löschen will. Es gibt auch noch schöne Bilder in flickr besonders aus den Stadtteilen, kann man die auch in Wikimedia einstellen, wäre schön. Hallo Magnus Manske, in der Kategorie Matt sind einige von Dir hochgeladene Bilder von Personen einsortiert (z.B. File:Matt Weitzman (3760909080).jpg). Sind diese dort, weil einige von ihnen den Vornamen Matt haben? Wenn ja, sollte man dann für die Bilder, die die Ortschaft Matt im Glarnerland betreffen, eine eigene Kategorie erstellen - z.B. Forgot TUSC password

Sorry about that, I thought I had lost some rights or something, When I "Insert the numeric set ID" in the "OR Flickr photoset ID" field, it just gives the message "loading data..." and hangs at that point rather than go and retrieve and display the images. I just tried Flickr photoset ID 72157617684084454, and it works for me; please try that. Also, if you access the tool via https, try http - there was some issue with the https flickr api, and some browsers (e.g. Chrome) will silently block http API access form an https page. Last, make sure the TUSC button on top is green. I tried that photoset ID and photoset ID 72157601204543965 still the same, was using http and the TUSC was green. It's something to do with the web browser Opera Version 12.12 on Windows 7 as I just tried it on Firefox and it was working correctly Oxyman (talk) 19:41, 31 January 2013 (UTC)

Just tried Opera 12.13/Mac - works just fine. Don't have access to Win7. One thing you can try: Just before you click "Run", go to "Tools/Advanced/Error console" and click "Clear". Leave the window open in the background and click on the "Run" button in my tool. If any message shows up, please paste it here. Yes, that's the problem one of the extensions in the browser was preventing the tool from working as it functions fine when I turn them of, either Adblock Plus, NoAds Advanced or Avast! Sieht danach aus, als ob das Skript hier eine Trennung von zwei Werten vornimt und den zweiten verwirft. Dieser Fehler (Bug ?) sollte behoben werden. I'm already verified with the en/wikipedia combination, but I just can't go through the upload form to save my life. All I get is "TUSC verification failed" over and over. Hello, when i recently use it, i sighted two bugs.

First, it remove the apostrophe from filename whithout any notice ("Heines songs" instead of "Heine's songs"). In simulate mode log filename contains the apostrophe, but uploaded files not has — File:Heines songs translated by М. L. Mikhailow, 1858, page P01.jpg:

Ich wollte ein Bild [6] mit dem Comm.helper 2 unter Zuhilfenahme von Tusc nach Commons verschieben. Habe mir extra die CommonshelperSeite (für die Anfänger): "Help de" ausgedruckt, um Schritt für Schritt alles abzuarbeiten , nur mit dem Tusc (Directly upload file) klappt es nicht. Ich hatte mich dort mit einem Paßwort angemeldet, weiß aber nicht ob das überhaupt geklappt hat oder mein paßwort nicht mehr stimmt? Angemeldet bin ich auf allen WP-Projekten mit "79.214er". Sum-it-up and Wikidata

If I'm not wrong, you're the proud father of Sumitup tool (and you can be, proud, I mean) )

There is only a little problem : after wikidata was deployed, almost all wikilink were removed from almost all wikipedias, and the tool does not work any more... here, imagine me weeping and trying to add links "by hand"…

See for example, the link I put above - on wikidata, there are at (today) 15 wikilinks to the same item. Do you think it would be possible to take wikidata into account in the sum-it-up tool ? or would it be simpler to make a gadget like the one used on creators to update wikilinks using directly wikidata ?

Hallo Magnus, einige OSM-User legen im OSM-Wiki Fotos ab, die eigentlich nach wikimedia commons gehören. Ich habe gesehen, dass du mit deinem Bot Bilder von verschiedenen Orten transverierst. Ist es möglich, deinen Bot auch für einen Transfer vom OSM-Wiki nach wikimedia zum Einsatz zu bringen? Beispiel:

File Upload Bot - categorization

Hello, Magnus! Thanks for developing the bot, it will help users a lot. :)

I'm writing because the Category:Racing sports is getting filled of images because of the bot. It's a container category that should have no files in it. That would be surprisingly painful to implement, as any category can have multiple parents, an so on, including circular relations. If the images in question are imported from Flickr, it's actually Flinfo generating the categories for me. --Magnus Manske (talk) 20:21, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Ich habe jetzt schon zwei verschiedene Bilder mit Hilfe deines Bots und deines Helfers Commonshelper eins drei mal versucht zu verschieben. Leider lädt der Bot die Bilder offenbar nicht (mehr) in die Commons, trotz TUSC Account. Das Log zeigt dabei folgende Daten an:
