Flickr2Commons: strip bogus boilerplate?
Suggestion: How 'bout tweaking Flickr2Commons to not import bogus boilerplate - e.g. strip anything like "This official * photograph is being made available only for publication by news organizations and/or for personal printing by the subject(s) of the photograph. The photograph may not be manipulated in any way. Also, it may not be used in any type of commercial, advertisement, product or promotion that in any way suggests approval or endorsement *." ? See Commons:Village_pump#Photos_distributed_by_White_House.--Elvey (talk) 06:34, 19 February 2016 (UTC)
Hello Magnus Manske, I noticed that CommonsDelinker deleted the name of deleted files in the log areas and especially in the Featured picture candidates log. The result is that it stay in the log only this transclusion : "{{Commons:Featured picture candidates/}}" wich is the transclusion of this page. There is two issue:
- All candidate images have in the section "File usage on Commons" links to several areas of the log (exemple). This can be misleading and disruptor for visitors.
- The main issue is those candidate pages are archived discussions, with sometimes important discussions wich can lead to some block of users or to some consensus of the community. To keep my exemple above, this discussion still exist and should be (was) archived. However after the passage of CommonsDelinker the page still exist, yes, but is harder to find.
- Is there a way to amand the CommonsDelinker so it does not erases the names of the deleted files in the log areas/namespaces? Regards, Christian Ferrer (talk) 12:35, 20 March 2016 (UTC)

komischer Baustein?
Was soll das bewirken?
--Magnus Manske (talk) 16:06, 2 April 2016 (UTC)
- Ah, also unfertig und Mißverständnis, sorry.
--Magnus Manske (talk) 18:15, 2 April 2016 (UTC)

crop request Foto Cynthia Nickschas
Wikimedia Commons Metadata
@Magnus Manske: Hi Magnus. I hope you can help. I need to access the metadata for an entire Commons category (I see the Wikimedia Commons API will call data for individual images). The category is:Welsh Landscape Collection. I need to list the handle number for each image, which is stated in the data for each image, for some work a volunteer is doing with Wikidata for the collection. For several different reasons, i cant get this info from the original metadata file. Do you think you could help? Thanks Jason.nlw (talk) 12:58, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
- Would that be the {{NLWsource}} number? As on this page? --Magnus Manske (talk) 15:05, 5 April 2016 (UTC)

CommonsHelper tool question
Greetings Magnus, I noticed this was archived but wasn't sure if you saw it before it was. I just wanted to report just in case. Reguyla (talk) 16:16, 5 April 2016 (UTC)
Greetings Magnus. I just wanted to stop by and tell you that I really like your CommonsHelper tool. It makes uploading images to commons a lot easier than doing it manually. I have noticed however that when it does that, Ogrebot then goes along and has to do some cleanup. I was wondering if there would be anyway to adjust CommonsHelper to reduce or eliminate the amount of followup edits that OgreBot 2 has to do.
A couple suggestions if you don't mind:
- I would recommend that if a file contains no source information, that CommonsHelper would not let the user upload it. I had the problem with File:Jose Calugas.jpg recently.
- When I uploaded File:USMCGenRossDwyer.jpg it included some information that referenced Wikipedia itself. I would suggest maybe not allowing these either. For what its worth, in this case, the file refers to another similar file called File:Dwyer RossT MajGenUSMC.jpg that has the actual reference information. Not sure your tool can do much about this but in general I would think its not ideal to upload images that use WP as a source.
- When I uploaded File:Paul F Straub.jpg Ogrebot then went back and did some cleanup on the file that can be seen here. Maybe the CommonsHelper tool could do some of this when it loads the image?
- If you look at my uploads here you can see some more things that Ogrebot changes.
I its not possible to do these things with the tool or if you don't have the time I certainly understand. I just wanted to mention it because I noticed that Ogrebot is quite a busy bot and it might reduce some of its edits and the discussions that ensue if some of these things were tweaked in how the CommonsHelper tool worked.
Thanks for the time and please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for all the tools you make, they really do help a lot. Reguyla (talk) 01:48, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Photo page Landsadvocaat
Hi Magnus Manske,
Is it possible to remove the photo of Eric Daalder? He is no longer deputy landsadvocaat.
Thanks in advance,

- Well, if he ever was one, I see no reason to remove his photo. You might want to remove his photo from the Landsadvocaat page, which you can do by editing this page. --Magnus Manske (talk) 14:53, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
A week of looking at women
After reading http://magnusmanske.de/wordpress/?p=392 (found on the meta sidebar with planet.wikimedia) I checked Category:Crop_for_Wikidata. Most were too small or too hard for my tastes, but some are over 1 MB and technically simple (as far as I trust that XnView lossless crop does what it says.) But my 1st test took rather long, I had to find commons categories based on an enwiki article. The 2nd test was straight forward, 5 minutes, using the commons category for the woman. The 3rd test was an epic fail, after uploading the crop I decided that the source license requires a DR (and the crop got a speedy). So that's not as easy as you (maybe) think, I give up for today. –Be..anyone (talk) 22:48, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
- You can use CropTool to do lossless cropping online. It will re-upload the cropped images, categories and all. There is a Commons plugin to have it in the sidebar of every image. --Magnus Manske (talk) 16:31, 9 April 2016 (UTC)

Ist das dein Ernst?
Hey Magnus,
--Atamari (talk) 07:03, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
- Gute Idee. –Be..anyone 💩 22:43, 19 April 2016 (UTC)
--Magnus Manske (talk) 18:08, 19 April 2016 (UTC)

Flickr2commons and categories
Hi Magnus. Thank you for developing flickr2commons, for which I'd like to submit a bug report, or an enhancement request, if you like:
I transferred some 400 images from EBL Flickr account to category:2014 European Bridge Championships, Opatija. I spent a considerable amount of time categorizing the players' photos into appropriate country categories, e.g. category:Icelandic bridge players. However, many of those categories had not existed at the time – my plan was to revisit the photos upon upload and create appropriate red-linked categories. Now, to my surprise, flickr2commons only categorized the photos into existing categories, and stripped all the redlinks, wiping out most of my work. I'm going to fix the issue with cat-a-lot (and in retrospect, it's much better tool for the job). However, if you could fix that issue, or at least document it in the help popups, it would probably save someone else's effort in the future.
Another minor issue: Flickr apparently changed their URL naming scheme for albums, but the help popup in https://tools.wmflabs.org/flickr2commons/ for "photoset ID" still refers to "/in/set-#####". It's pretty obvious that the last part of the URL (album number like 1231798097) is required, but some change in wording would be beneficial, for clarity. No such user (talk) 07:12, 20 May 2016 (UTC)

flickr2commons
Hi Magnus. I am using your "flickr 2 commons" upload tool. Great tool. May I suggest an addition: Screen and warn for duplicate "Flickr photo ID" alone. Not just in combination with the flickr file name. If the tool finds a duplicate let the user decide what to do. As it now is I do not know when I am uploading a duplicate image with simply a changed flickr file name, or with a minor improvement in the lighting. If I purposely want to upload an improved image I should be able to do that, but I want to be warned in case it is accidental. Bengt Nyman (talk) 14:35, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

Hi Magnus - your bot ListeriaBot ooperates this page; it is a very useful page, but as audio files are added to wikidata for more and more species, it will eventually become unmanageably large (very large galleries often cause computer crashes!). Not necessary yet, but do you think you could plan for a future division of it into two or more pages, please? Maybe non-passerines and passerines to start with? Your bot
I lost all the material which I wrote in the article because of your bot. Are you think - it's normal, if the bot making changes to the article, which is contein "actively edited"? I agree, it was some problems with the license of the image, but why you can't customize deletion after editing? I lost articles material irreparably, because of the conflict between my edit and the action of your bot. Artem Ponomarenko (talk) 08:14, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- Which article? Which bot? If it's Commons Delinker removing an image, that image was deleted by someone else on Commons, before the bot removed the broken image from the article. --Magnus Manske (talk) 08:17, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
- (talk page stalker) Searching this user's name on en:wiki, they only made two contributions, both were to remove material from articles. I don't see any article to which a +contribution was made and therefore cannot assist with the situation. Ellin Beltz (talk) 14:44, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Flickr 2 Commons Blacklist
Sorry for not using BitBucket, but I don't know how to use it. I had a problem using the bot. - Have you tried using "Prefix selected names" and writing in a short description that applies to all files? That will add what you write in to the beginning of all filenames. This probably isn't an issue with F2C but with MediaWiki:Titleblacklist. darkweasel94 10:09, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

blacklist hits
I notice that Filedelinkerbot and Commonsdelinker regularly hit the spam-blacklist because the files that they unlink are on blacklisted servers. I think it would be good if they built-in a check that if they hit the spam-blacklist, that they re-try but maiming the external link (e.g. leave off the 'http://'). They could even do that standard - maiming the link - as the link in the edit summary is not clickable, so copy-paste is for the interested follower anyway the only option. The latter solution would avoid hitting the blacklist completely. I do expect there will be a high incidence on links that are blacklisted or at least very questionable when there are copyright violations on the site (and we should never link to material in violation of copyright, so those sites do run a high risk of becoming blacklisted for that reason).
Both bots hit the filter on 'hosuronline.com/index.php/govt-demolished-part-of-csi-church-in-salem-without-verifying-papers/' on en:CSI Immanuel Church, salem (en-admin eyes only: log)- and from both it is unclear which file is the offending file (I can only guess through the re-linked image). I see the bots turn up regularly in the logs (I will cross-post this on the other bot's talkpage). --Beetstra (talk) 06:14, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Pickup + small Camping unit
Hi,

OAuth_uploader authentication not showing as active
Hi MM. When attempting to utilise the url2commons tools today, I can get into the authorise process, in that I see the MW: page and can accept the request, the follow-on page dos not show that authentication has happened, ie. it still says "authorise". Its quite a useful tool, available through the Commons interface, at it is a pity to have it down.
To me it seems that the DB is down. Is there something you could do?

Flickr2Commons not detecting all photos
EDIT: This turned out to be a non-bug, and was my fault. Don't waste your time with this. Sorry for the bother! -IagoQnsi (talk) 16:41, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Hey, I've been using your Flickr2Commons tool a lot, and I really love it, but lately I've had a few issues where it won't detect every photo in an album. This album has 635 photos, but Flickr2Commons only detects 475 photos when I put in the photoset ID. The photos it skips are consistent (i.e. if I reload the page and put in the same album ID, it'll skip the same photos), but they seem to be more or less random -- I don't see anything that distinguishes them from the other photos. For example, looking at the first couple photos in that album I just linked:
To my eyes, everything seems fine with the No photos -- they have the same CC BY license and everything else seems to be the same. Would you mind taking a look at this and seeing what might be causing Flick2Commons to skip these photos? I am the owner of that album, so if there is something that needs to be fixed in the album, I can change it. Many thanks, IagoQnsi (talk) 15:43, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
- Ah, my apologies; I just noticed your banner at the top asking that bug reports go on Bitbucket. My mistake, I'll copy this over to there. EDIT: Here is the issue I created. -IagoQnsi (talk) 15:46, 12 June 2017 (UTC)
Mislabel leading to Embarrassing Situations "Patch Adams at Sarvodaya.jpg"
Hello Magnus, My name is Derek Busby, and I am the assistant to Dr. Patch Adams. I am writing to you because the picture entitled "Patch Adams at Sarvodaya" has been incorrectly labeled. This picture is actually of Dr. Bowen White: http://bowenwhite.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/IMG_3774.jpg . While Drs. Adams and White are both amused by the mix-up, this picture has been used on several wikipedia pages (Spanish and Italian at least), and has been picked up by fans who came to believe this was a picture of Dr. Adams. We now have T-Shirts and a statue which feature the image of Dr. White, which have been presented to Dr. Adams--much to the confusion to all those involved. So, I would ask that you please edit this picture to reflect the reality that this is an image of Dr. Bowen White. Thank you. -Derek

I'm currently building excerpt images from the File:ETH-BIB-Internationaler Mathematikerkongress, Zürich 1932-Portrait-Portr 10680-FL.tif, and File:FinslerPaul Zurich1932.tif is one of them. If you need some more extracts for wikidata, please tell me, I'm happy to provide them (however, most will be of very poor resolution). However, I'm not sufficiently familiar with wikidata to set the 'picture' field there, so this must be done by someone else. - Jochen Burghardt (talk) 10:34, 28 June 2017 (UTC)

When I try to load Flickr2Commons and CommonsHelper they do not work, instead it says "502 Bad Gateway". MB298 (talk) 19:30, 29 June 2017 (UTC)
File:BML-190.png has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.
If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues. |

Files from Flickr
Hi. In past your bot transferred some files from flickr, but not the best version in the highest resolution available. See [8],[9], etc. Also, this issue is the cause of some number of undetected-yet duplicated flickr files on Commons (I remember this was mentioned at Village Pump in early 2017). Maybe you know how to detect all these files, to put a bot to mass re-check and re-upload them if there is available a larger version. --XXN, 16:15, 28 July 2017 (UTC)
Request fixed
Hi! Now this request has been fixed, and the cawp article has the cropped image. The strange interface at Wikidata hinders me to add it there (is there a simple how-to-do-it nearby?).--Paracel63 (talk) 19:00, 3 August 2017 (UTC)
- Hi again! No I got help to understand the interface, and the image link has been added here. All the best.--Paracel63 (talk) 21:20, 4 August 2017 (UTC)

CommonsDelinker temporary shutdown
FYI: INC abusively delete over a thousand images. To prevent delinker from processing these images, Matiia has temporary locked the bot account and bd808 disabled its crontab. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 05:57, 11 August 2017 (UTC)
